It has been something of a cakewalk for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017/18. Tipped to secure automatic promotion since the opening weekend, Nuno Espirito Santos’s men have been the strongest team in England’s second tier by some distance and fans will be excited to see how Wolves perform in the Premier League next season. Nobody is expecting Nuno’s side to go and challenge for the European spots but fans have hinted at a top-half finish.
A brief scan of the Championship table and you quickly notice how dominant Wolves have been this season. No team has won more matches (30) or scored more goals (82) than Nuno’s side and it would be unwise to write Wolves off ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign. Expecting the west Midlands side to drop out of the top flight would be foolish; Wolves will relish the chance to prove themselves on the big stage.
Cardiff City will join Wolves in the top flight – the Bluebirds have been there or thereabouts for most of the season. Meanwhile, Fulham are well placed to secure their spot in England’s top flight via the playoffs. At the time of writing, the Cottagers are 21/20 in the latest Championship betting odds to go up to the Premier League – it would take a brave man to back against Fulham on current form.
With smart investment in the transfer window, Wolves can blossom into a consistent-top-flight football club. Keeping Ruben Neves at Molineux will be the top priority this summer; reports were linking the Portuguese star with a move to Liverpool and the West Midlands side cannot afford to let him leave. Neves has scored six goals this season; all six have been top class strikes.
Wolves have failed to inspire confidence in previous top flight campaigns but there is a different mentality at Molineux these days. Chinese owners Fosun International bought the club in 2016 and Wolves have gone from strength to strength since then. Spending big isn’t always the solution but Wolves have managed to turn things around after a sticky spell; Nuno will be given a hefty figure for transfers this summer too.
Already Wolves transfer spend Is up to £155m according to the tabloids.
Allen £20m
Mitrovic £20m
Talisca £29m
Andre Silva £35m
Pele £10m
Jota £13m
N’Diaye £8m
Afobe £10m
Boly £10m

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been linked with Wolves in recent weeks and he would almost certainly fit Nuno’s system and style of play. The England star is out of contract at theEmirates Stadium this summer and a move to Molineux would make sense. Wolves will probably be able to outbid any rivals in the bidding to acquire the 26-year-old and Wilshere might want a fresh start away from north London.A player of Wilshere’s calibre will help Wolves but Nuno won’t want to upset the apple cart too much. His current crop of stars are talented and hungry to succeed, so why not keep the faith? Enough chit-chat about finishing in the top half; Wolves’ primary objective in 2018/19 is to avoid relegation. From there, they can build momentum and compete in the Premier League on a yearly basis.
